Life skills should be taught in school....agreed
(content: if you cant see the URL)
Every high school needs to have some kind of “life preparation” classes that you take all year for 11th and 12th grade. They should include, but not be limited to, how to:
- write a resume (and maintain contacts for reference checks)
- apply for a job, and how to follow-up on job applications
- open a bank account, and how to balance a check book
- take out a loan, and how to pay it back
- build credit, and maintain an “acceptable” credit score
- invest in your retirement from the time you start working
- make a big purchase, such as a home or a car
- figure out what kind of insurance to get, and how to pick out doctors and dentists for yourself and your family
- sew a button and hem a shirt/pants
- give a damn about your political institutions and how to vote in them
- do routine maintenance on your car (oil changes, air filters, tire rotation/tread, etc)
- make scrambled eggs without ruining a goddamn Teflon pan
